A showcase of sustainable solutions for music and the performing arts

Julie’s Bicycle and White Light creates a showcase of best practice and market-ready products and services for sustainable production.

One of the industry’s key events of the year to focus solely on sustainable production, the afternoon will include a programme of talks and discussions from industry experts, and a trade show exhibiting tried-and-tested products and services designed to help green your production.

You will have the opportunity to try out new technologies and seek advice from manufacturers, designers and event production professionals on all aspects of greening your work.

In 2011 Simon Yorke did a piece of research into the embodied environmental impacts of various materials used commonly in stage construction. Here he shares his findings, and the practical choices they have led to since then.

16:10 Towards Eco-design

Soutra Gilmour, Set and Costume Designer

Adapting design approaches and aesthetics to environmental challenges will require a shift in mind set and practice, but also the development of new relationships with environmentally conscious suppliers. Soutra will set out her manifesto for eco design, which underpins all of her work, and speak about how she is addressing sustainability practically and aesthetically.

Laura Pando, Sustainability Manager Festival Republic

Festival Republic organise some of the UK’s best-loved boutique and large-scale festival events. Following success in achieving a 3 star Industry Green certification for Reading and Latitude Festivals in 2012, sustainability coordinator Laura Pando shares her experience and learning on what they’ve done to reduce emissions, save money, and engage audiences in more sustainable choices.

16:30 Kinetic Energy: Integrating Power and Performance

Lucy Doherty, Milk Presents Theatre Company

For the last three years Milk Presents have powered their fringe theatre productions using simple, homemade bicycle generators. Their choice was driven by an aesthetic, rather than environmental, purpose but has led them to consider the sustainability of their productions more broadly.

This event is for all production professionals (both outdoor and indoor production), and anyone who is interested in learning more about sustainable production and best practice in the creative sector.

Green My Production is a follow up event to the Sustainable Production Day, co-hosted by Julie’s Bicycle and the National Theatre in May 2011.

The event will take place in White Light’s event space:

TUBE: 8 minute walk from South Wimbledon station (Northern Line).

TRAMLINK: 6 minute walk from Merton Road tramlink stop (5 minutes from Wimbledon Station)

TRAIN: Wimbledon Station (Overground and District Line trains) is a 10 minute bus or tramlink ride away.

BUS: Number 93 from Wimbledon Station to Morden Road/Jubilee Way.
